Goals and Themes
The primary goal of this workshop is to foster community and to debate the need for and the value of using empirical approaches to researching aspects of software processes, products and services that contribute to software business success. We bring together practitioners and researchers to come up with novel ideas about how software industry and software engineering science can profit more from each other by practicing empirical research approaches.

We invite for submissions about one of the three central themes as follows:
• How do science and software industry collaborate in a mutually beneficial way? What is the perceived value of empirical software engineering research, from practitioners’ standpoint? What reporting formats do practitioners in software businesses prefer from academic researchers? How to sell research ideas and how to acquire software industry partners? How to close communication gaps between research and software industry?
• Approaches to caring out industry-relevant research and experiences in using these approaches, e.g. action research, explorative case studies, experiments, replication studies, validation and evaluation studies.
• Software-industry-relevant empirical studies, discussing lessons learnt, applying theories, presenting state-of-the-art practices or the impact of empirical research on software business practice.

Submissions
EPIC 2013 invites experience reports and research papers. We encourage both practitioners and researchers to submit papers on their experiences. We welcome both full papers (max. 10 pages) and position papers (max. 6 pages).

Recently, I again used my students as guinea pigs for a risk estimation experiment. The electrotechnics students at University of Applied Sciences at Bingen estimated the probabilities of some frequent risk events like the crash of a laptop. We applied the Delphi method which includes two estimation rounds. Between both rounds, the results of the first round are made transparent and discussed.

These are the experiment´s main results:
- The students were better than estimators in previous experiments where the same risk events were used. They overestimated the probabilities, but only by 114% (so, they approximately estimated the probabilities twice as high as they are).
- It was again found that having experienced a certain risk event before makes the estimator overestimate the probability even more.
- Correlations with two out of the Big Five personality characteristics were also investigated. Those estimators with a low value in neuroticism and a high value in diligence were better estimators than the others.
- As the estimates were too high in the first round, and those with low estimates raised their values in the second round and vice versa, the estimates converged, but overall worsened. The general and systematic bias to overestimate risk event probabilities can not overcome by applying the Delphi method.

innerhalb der GI-Fachgruppe Requirements Engineering gründet sich ein neuer Arbeitskreis zum Thema "Requirements Engineering Lehre". Hierfür suchen wir Mitstreiter.

Unser Ziel ist ein Austausch zwischen RE-Lehrenden aus Hochschule und Praxis, aber auch die Erarbeitung konkreter Ergebnisse wie RE-Übungen, Trainingsmaterial, Fachartikel.

Eine erste Liste möglicher Themen wäre:
- Lehrmethoden für RE
- Best practices, Case Studies, Success/Failure Stories, ...
- Vergleich von wissenschaftlicher Lehre vs. Kurz-Fortbildungen vs. Zertifizierungskursen
- Lehre für Informatiker / Systementwickler vs. Lehre "für das andere Projekt-Ufer" => gemeinsame Lehr-Lern-Projekte
- Selbstlern-/eLearning-Pakete
- Bewertung von Trainingserfolgen (z.B. Anwendung des Kirkpatrick- Modells auf RE-Schulungen)
- Best Practices für die Motivation und die Einführung von RE in Projekten und Unternehmen

Als nächster Schritt ist ein konstituierendes Treffen oder eine Telefonkonferenz während der vorlesungsfreien Zeit zur Erarbeitung einer Roadmap für den Arbeitskreis geplant.

Meine persönliche Interpretation dieser Ergebnisse ist, dass Männer sich generell mehr erlauben können. Das lernen sie schon in Schulzeit und Studium, dass sie mit Schaumschlägerei und Betrug durchkommen und selten erwischt werden. Bei Frauen wird alles, was sie sagen und tun, von Betreuern viel strenger kontrolliert und hinterfragt, Fehler werden streng bestraft. Daher lernen wir, gründlich und revisionssicher zu arbeiten.

Regelmäßig finden sich in den Fachmedien Berichte über gescheiterte Projekte. Ein wesentlicher Grund für das Scheitern liegt in unzureichenden Anforderungsdefinitionen. Je komplexer die Projekte sind und je dynamischer sich die Umwelt darstellt, desto wichtiger wird gutes Requirements Engineering und Requirements Management, um systematische Entscheidungshilfen zu geben und ein beschleunigtes Time-to-Market und folglich Wettbewerbsvorteile zu erreichen. Dieses Buch beschreibt für verschiedene Aktivitäten des Projektmanagements, wo und wie Methoden und Verfahren des Requirements Engineering und Management im Projekt zur Anwendung kommen wo überkommene Vorgehensweisen erweitert bzw. verändert werden sollten, wie Projektmanagement bereits (unbewusst) Requirements Engineering und Requirements Management an vielen Stellen einsetzt und dessen Ergebnisse nutzt. Durch bewussten Einsatz dieser Methoden kann das Projektmanagement verbessert werden. Eine Darstellung der Rahmenbedingungen für den optimalen Einsatz von Requirements Engineering rundet das Buch ab.

Hm, daran, dass ich behauptet habe, Frauen sitzen abends lieber zu Hause statt zu networken, kann ich mich gar nicht erinnern. Ich denke eher an das alte Forschungsergebnis, dass eine Frau 2,5 Mal so viel leisten muss wie ein Mann, um als gleich kompetent wahrgenommen zu werden.

Die Forschung zu diesem Thema ist noch nicht zu Ende, Folgestudien sind geplant. :-)

Am 23. Januar 2013 ab 17:00 Uhr halte ich meinen Abschlussvortrag für die Gastprofessur mit dem Titel

Die „gläserne Decke“ – Wo Frauen in der Informatik nicht/langsamer voran kommen

Darin stelle ich die Forschungsergebnisse des Wintersemesters vor, die ich gemeinsam mit meinen Studenten erarbeitet habe. Die Schwerpunkte der Genderforschung waren „Umgang mit Konflikten“ und „Frauen als Gatekeeper in der Informatik“. Die untersuchten Forschungsfragen sind:

• Erfahren Frauen andere Konflikte als Männer? Gehen sie anders mit Konflikten um? Geben sie öfter nach?
• Beteiligen sich Wissenschaftlerinnen angemessen an der Organisation von Konferenzen und werden sie als Gutachter dazu eingeladen? Gibt es Unterschiede zwischen deutschen und internationalen Konferenzen? Sind Frauen in den "soften" Themen stärker vertreten als in den technischen?

3rd Workshop on Creativity in Requirements Engineering: CREARE’13
at REFSQ 2013

CREARE’13 in an interdisciplinary venue that brings together practitioners and researchers interested in discussing the role of creativity in RE, the array of creativity techniques that can be applied to RE, and the specific ways in which these techniques add value. We envision the CREARE participants to include both RE experts and experts from a variety of other fields, e.g. psychology, creative writing, design thinking. The workshop will serve as a forum for the exchange of both experience and research results. It also aims at raising awareness in the RE community for the importance of creativity and creativity techniques and awareness for RE in the creativity community. The targeted outcomes of CREARE’13 are:
(1) an agenda for conducting empirical research about creativity in RE, and
(2) an action plan to use the CREARE workshops as a platform for linking the RE community to other communities to which creativity is essential.

Workshop topics include, but are not restricted to:
- The interplay of requirements and creativity
- Creativity techniques and their application in requirements activities
- Tool support for creativity-enhancement
- Context-dependent use of creativity and creativity techniques
- Experiences with creativity techniques in industry
- Relation of creativity and innovation
- Requirements Engineering Techniques that enable or support creativity
- Professional skills essential to creativity in RE
- Creativity via reuse: trading off innovation and efficient production
- Theories from other disciplines (e.g. behavior sciences, psychology of learning) explaining the relationship between creativity and RE
- Teaching Creativity in RE

** Submissions **
We invite three types of submissions: position papers, full papers and interactive sessions. Both types should treat a topic from the workshop themes.
- Position papers (3-6 pages): Short papers, stating the position of the author(s) on any of the workshop topics. For example, position papers could describe an experiment or a case study in industry. These papers will be evaluated on their potential for generating discussion, on practical relevance and on the originality of the positions stated.
- Full papers (8-10 pages): Full papers evaluating an experience (in industry) or describing the results of a research effort. Full papers will be evaluated for innovativeness of the proposed ideas and for technical soundness.
- Interactive sessions (1-2 pages): Proposals for interactive sessions like games, method demonstrations, role plays or mini-tutorials of 20-30 Minutes which can be executed at the workshop, including the participation of circa 20 persons

All paper submissions should be in the LNCS format (see https://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-12-73062-0).
The papers will be published in the REFSQ workshop proceedings.
All submissions will be reviewed by three members of the Program Committee.
